The O'Neill Surfing Hainan Open

China's Leading Surf Event

Venue: Riyuewan, Hainan
Date: November 6th, 7th and 8th, 2010

The O'Neill Surfing Hainan Open is now fully subscribed. We have no extra space for competitors.

If you've already booked your place in the competition, make sure you have a look at this competitors' guide for important information on what to do and where to be.

For Hainan's only surf competition (and probably Hainan's best beach party as well), we will take over the normally sleepy beach of Riyuewan, on Hainan's southeast coast.

This year's event will have four divisions - Shortboard, Longboard, Bodyboard, and Stand Up Paddleboard.

Marking a first in Chinese surf history, there are professional divisions in both the shortboard and longboard competitions this year, with several big name pro-surfers taking part.

Feel free to come on down to Riyuewan and watch.

The 2010 O'Neill Surfing Hainan Open promises to be even bigger and better than last year. This year Hainan Government is investing millions of yuan to promote the event, and we'll be dedicating more time and money to making sure this is the best beach party of the year.

The free beer will continue to flow (thanks to Hainan Beer) , and we will continue to bring you live coverage online, only this time we'll do it properly, with systematic coverage, presenters and a professional HD camera.

We are in the process of updating this website. Most of the content you can see is left over from last year's event. Time is a bit tight this year, but we'll be posting up this year's content in the weeks before the competition begins.

What to Expect
It's a serious, competitive surfing event open to skilled and intermediate surfers, plus an excellent excuse for what is probably the best beach party of the year.

Second Surfing Hainan OpenLast year, the surf was less than obliging, leaving us with some discouraging flatness for the longboard finals on day two, but the last few months have proved a strong season for surf in Hainan, so we're feeling lucky this time.

The third Surfing Hainan Open is going to be bigger and better than the first two, with more sponsorship, more riders, more beach activities, just more of everything really. Be sure to book your place.
